Role: The BSHDC serves as the primary entity for the Blantyre Synod’s social development initiatives, implementing programs to improve community well-being within its geographical area.
Thematic Areas: The commission’s work is concentrated in four key areas:

Orphans and other Vulnerable Children (OVC)
Governance
Focus on SRHR: A significant area of focus is Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), particularly for adolescents and youth, which includes addressing teenage pregnancies and gender-based violence (GBV) through policy development and community engagement.
Partnerships: The BSHDC is a member of the ACT Alliance Malawi Forum and the N’zatonse Consortium, collaborating with other development partners and donors like the German Development Bank (KfW) and Dan Church Aid Malawi.
